Favorites

I had one of those mom moments the other day.  The moment that from 5:43pm to 5:44pm, Ryan was my favorite child - don't worry they have all equaled out since then.

We were doing Ryan's homework at the table and here is the conversation that took place.

Me: Ok Ry, what is seven plus three?

Ryan: Mom, you are a good mom.

Me: What did you say?

Ryan: I said, you're a good mom.

Me:  Did you just say I am a good mom?

Ryan: yes

( At this point Ryan can see he has obviously thrown me off guard as to where this is coming from)

Ryan:  Sometime we don't listen to you.

Me:  Thank you buddy (hug and then kiss on the top of the head). Ok. So, seven plus three...

This interaction brought pure joy to my heart.  Ryan knows right from wrong, good behavior from bad.  He knows that him and Noah both wear me out with their constant need to pretend they are hard of hearing.  In that moment though, Ryan knew he could be defiant but appreciated the fact that I was still there, sitting next to him, having fun doing math together.

Have I mentioned this put him on the favorite list?!

God used this one step further in my life yesterday.  I started to think...
How many times do I pretend to be hard of hearing when I hear God talking to me?
Sometimes because I don't like what he is saying, other times because I am to busy to really listen.  Yet, at the end of the day he still sits down with me and meets me where I'm at. He still listens to me and still teaches me.

His unconditional love for me never seizes to amaze me!
